How Roblox trade scams actually work

The scams that keep working in Adopt Me and Blox Fruits, and the one habit that stops nearly all of them.

The one thing to know first

Every scam below works the same way underneath. Either the other player pulls you out of the trade window, or they change what is in it at the last second. Block those two moves and most scams simply stop working.

1. Pay first — the most common one

"You send yours first and I'll send mine right after." If you go first, they leave. Once someone leaves the game there is no way to trace them.

Watch for excuses that change the order: "my inventory is full right now", "we have to be friends for it to work". The excuse itself is the signal.

2. The last-second swap

They put a good item in the window, then swap it for a similar-looking lower tier just before you press accept. Neon becomes regular, Mega becomes Neon.

It works best with pets that look alike. If you are going by the icon alone, it is hard to catch.

3. The fake middleman

Someone offers to "hold" both sides of a trade to make it safe. They hold both sides and leave. Sometimes there are two of them and the second one vouches for the first.

4. Anyone asking for account details

"I'll put the item in for you, just give me your login" is account theft, every time. So is any site that asks you to log in to Roblox to get free items.

5. Real-money trades

Trading items for real money happens outside Roblox entirely, so nothing protects either side. Whoever goes first loses. These trades also break Roblox's rules, so reporting it afterwards can get your own account actioned.

If it already happened

  1. Take a screenshot of the trade window and the chat if you still can.
  2. Report the account through Roblox's report button. Items are almost never restored, but repeat scammers do get banned.
  3. Change your password if you shared anything at all.
  4. Tell someone. Most people who get scammed stay quiet and get scammed again.

Before your next trade, put both sides into the calculator. Seeing the numbers makes the pressure to decide quickly much easier to resist.
